About Nicholas J. Zeringue

NICHOLAS ZERINGUE – FOUNDING PARTNER

Nicholas J. Zeringue is an accomplished attorney with almost 20 years of front-line experience. Completing his Juris Doctor and MBA at the same time in 1997, he prepared himself well to pursue a career that combines his dual interests in the law and all things business.

Since that time, he’s practiced business law vigorously, establishing a reputation as a savvy commercial litigator and a well-proven insurance defense counselor. He litigates cases from filing through appeal, in both the state and federal court systems. He formulates and implements case resolution plans and litigation budgets from assignment through discovery, settlement and trial. He directs clients through mediation and settlement negotiations, and he makes key decisions on which cases to try and which to resolve in advance of trial, and whether the use of an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) method is appropriate.

Born and raised in Southeast Louisiana in the small, historic city of Thibodaux, it’s no surprise that Louisiana’s woodlands, wetlands and waters and have gotten into Nicholas’ blood. An outdoorsman, as adept at casting a reel as taking a deposition, Nicholas’ extensive, personal knowledge of the lands and waters throughout the Gulf South has made him an invaluable legal partner for his many clients in the maritime industry. His prior experience as in-house counsel and part of the management team for the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans allows him unique perspective. As an Attorney-Mediator, trained by Sid Stahl in his mediation academy in Dallas, TX, Nicholas has an insider’s understanding of ADR methods and processes, and is able to use this understanding to negotiate for exceptional outcomes.

For his clients who operate on a more global scale, Nicholas is able to incorporate his international perspective, acquired in his undergraduate studies, in the early years of his career as a financial analyst for an international company based in Caracas, Venezuela, and in extensive travels across Central and South America, Europe, Africa, and North America.

With this rich and varied background, Nicholas is able to offers his clients a distinctively broad and profound quality of representation.

Nicholas J. Zeringue earned his undergraduate degree in International Trade and Finance from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and then moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University School of Law and Tulane’s A.B. Freeman School of Business, where he earned his Juris Doctor and Masters of Business Administration, respectively. He is licensed to practice in all Louisiana state and federal courts.

He is very active in the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA). He is currently serving his third term on the LSBA Nominating Committee and has been a member of the House of Delegates for over 10 years.  Formerly, he served for two years on LSBA’s Legislative Committee and as the Chairman of its Community Action Committee, running its “Secret Santa Project,” distributing Christmas gifts to thousands of needy children.  Nicholas is also a member of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel (LADC) and the Lafourche Parish Bar Association, for which he has held all offices, including two terms as president. He is also a member of the Terrebonne Parish Bar Association and the Baton Rouge Bar Association.

In additional to his professional associations, Nicholas is a POST-trained and certified law enforcement officer, completing the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Training Academy, class 2011-2.  He currently serves as a reserve deputy for a local Sheriff’s office.  Nicholas is also closely involved and serves on the board of directors in “Hooks for Hearts,” a philanthropic organization dedicated to raising money for the American Heart Association.

Last but not least, Nicholas enjoys spending free time with family at retreats in Grand Isle and rural Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, as well as engaging in all shooting sports, like three-gun competitions and skeet, trap, clays, and 5-stand shotgun events.

Finally, Nicholas sits on the all-volunteer Civil Service Board for the City of Thibodaux, currently serving his second term as the Board’s Chairman.
